Why the Buffalo?
The difference between a Buffalo and Cow was the perfect analogy to run alongside our first Bottle.It Golf Day.
When an incoming storm approaches, cows run away — which ultimately means they spend more time in the worst of it. Buffalo, on the other hand, charges directly into the storm. By running straight through it, they minimize the time they spend in it and the pain they suffer.
This playing group identified themselves as Buffalo from the minute they signed up. Very little information was offered about the Mental Health element that this Golf Day would involve. Yet, 40 blokes all loaded up and headed up the highway.
A herd of humans not known for their ability to communicate or talk openly about feelings. All turned up, all wanting to pursue a different approach to a way of handling the noise in the top paddock.
The hard-wired self deprecating humour deeply engrained in most blokes has built a wall around feelings and being able to enjoy a moment. We put an environment in place we're you could meet some likeminded blokes, get outside, move a bit, and celebrate others.
It's a golf day. But simpler.
We're quick to label events, and things that are negative for our Mental Health, so it felt very good to be able to present an event highlighting Positive Mental Health and the ability to label it as that.
When we take a minute to enjoy what we are meant to be enjoying, life becomes a bit better.

We have hand selected an amazing location to align ourselves with Positive Mental Health practices. The benefits of being outdoors, active, and raising money to help the continuation of the Bottle.It program all build a sense of fulfilment and purpose.
Every dollar raised past our small set financial target will be donated to the Bulahdelah Golf Club, a small golf course on the Mid North Coast run by a team of dedicated volunteers. We support their commitment to providing an amazing round of golf by showcasing the facilities to a wider audience, providing customers for both the Club/Chinese restaurant and a financial donation from proceeds of this event.
